The Learning Resource Centre: A learning hub

Firstly, let me introduce myself, I am the new Learning Resource Centre (LRC) Manager Miss Abrahams and my aim is to turn the LRC into a learning hub at the centre of the school’s activities.

LRCs are no longer just about providing books and a space for individual reading and studying, although this still remains as important as ever; they are also a space for collaborative learning and should provide the latest electronic resources.

The LRC is currently trialling EBSCO host, which is a fantastic electronic resource providing access to a number of searchable databases including: The Literary Reference Centre and the Science Reference Centre. These provide up to date opinions, research and information on a number of topics. Each pupil can also join their local library online, which would not only provide you with access to thousands more books but also to Cheshire’s Virtual Reference Library. The Virtual Reference Library provides access to resources such as Britannica Student and News Bank.

If you would like further information on these resources please come along to the LRC where we are happy to help. I look forward to meeting you all!
